Evaluation Question 4

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Blogger
The benefits of using Blogger out do the difficulties by far. Blogger is what i have used to post all my work on for my media product, that consists of my research and planning, my digipak, my magazine advert, my evaluation and then obviously my music video. Due to the website being very easy to use and navigate i had no trouble at uploading work or creating it. For my research and planning creating work on Blogger was simple and basic, what it excelled in reliability it doesn't provide the creator many options for creativity. What i mean by this is how they're are minimal word fonts, basic colours and when inserting images cannot freely move them around, they work in chunks almost like a table, meaning that more often than not you cannot move an image to where you want it without it disrupting the text, with this you cannot customise the size of an image you have the option of smallest, small, normal, large and largest meaning less options for creativity again. But Overall the pros for Blogger out way the Cons by far as without it, we would have no place to post our work where it can be seen and accessed with ease.

Prezzi
Prezzi is great for creating unique projects. I have used Prezzi for longer tasks for my research and planning and also for my Evaluation summary. This is because i felt that if you are doing a task that will have a lot of text to it, from an examiners point of you they wouldn't really enjoy reading down pages and pages of text with no interesting fonts or anything making the text stand out. Where as Prezzi is interactive, you have to click to get to the next slide, page, bubble or whatever you want it to  be. Prezzi makes reading and creating work fun which in turn makes the standard of your work a lot higher. But, as Prezzi has so many different options and tools to create pieces of work it can be quite confusing for someone who hasn't used Prezzi before, there is a guide on how to use which gives you the basic tools on what to do but to use more unique and creative tools it takes some time to use effectively and how to find those tools.

Digital Camera's
Without a Digital camera i would not of been able to shoot my music video. This was obviously a vital piece of technology i needed to create my video. With the research and the planning i had done prior to filming i got more familiar and learnt more about the camera and the capabilities of the camera. Using a camera does have some difficulties, one of the main ones being battery life, due to the time of year when we where filming there was a limited amount of daylight as the sun would go down at 4:30pm, on top of that the camera i was using to film had a battery life of 2 hours and 45 minutes, because of this i had to make sure that i wasn't filming for long periods of time as it would fill up the memory card with useless footage using more battery life, this meant that when filming i had to be efficient with shots and only use the camera when i would get a good shot to use. Other than battery life the different settings on the camera like 'focus' meant that trying to focus the camera and get good shots was at times difficult as i had to keep repositioning the camera where it would be for example out of direct sunlight so it wouldn't confuse the camera lens. Although using a digital camera comes with its cons. Its still an extremely reliable and essential piece of technology that you need to create a music video.

Photoshop
I used photoshop to edit my photo for my magazine advert, i shaded in black and white around myself so that everything except me was black and white. I didn't use Photoshop throughout my research and planning as i didn't have any knowledge on how to use it. I found that using photoshop was a lot more challenging to use than Adobe indesign, but, photoshop proved to have a lot more editing options and capabilities meaning that you had so many more unique ways to edit therefore producing a more unique and more diverse piece of work.

Google, Bing
Google and Bing are the two most commonly used internet browsers. There is huge debate on which Browser is better throughout the world. Personally, i found that Google was a much better browser over Bing, Google was a lot faster and more fluid where as Bing was slower and more chunky, Google also had a better reach of information, so i could find exactly what i was looking for quicker. This meant that during my research and planning i would go to Google as my default browser, simply because it was faster and provided better information than Bing, Google also provides multiple different platforms instead of just the web browser, platforms like YouTube, Google maps and Google Mail aka G-mail. Although Bing does have its pros, for me, Google proved to be the better browser overall.

Laura Mulvey- RESEARCH

Laura Mulvey- Male gaze

What is gaze? Gaze is how an audience view the people presented in front of them. For Feminists it can thought of it in three ways: How men look at women. How women look at themselves. How women look at other women.

Laura Mulvey named the term 'Male Gaze in 1975. She believes that in film, audiences have to view characters from the perspective of a heterosexual male.

Quotes that portray Male Gaze
"I love the way she fills her clothes"
"She looks just like them girls in vogue"

Everyday life
Some theorists also have noted the sexualizing of the female body even in situations where female sexiness has nothing to do with the product being advertised.

The Male Gaze can also be directed towards members of the same gender for several reasons, not all of which are sexual, such as in comparison of body image or in clothing.

Key theorists beliefs
Jonathan Schroeder: (1998), "To Gaze implies more than to look at- it signifies a psychological relationship of power, in which the gazer is superior to the object of the Gaze"

Questionnaire feedback- RESEARCH

Questionnaire feedback
I gave out a total of sixteen questionnaires to different people in my year, I didn't want to give the questionnaires out to just people in my media class as I felt like the results would all be too similar.
looking at question one, twelve out of a possible sixteen people said that they are seventeen years old, I expected this result as the majority of the people in my year are still seventeen years old. Question two, for question two people said that "pop" and "dance" genres of music where they're favourites. Question three, eight people said that they're favourite type of music video is narrative based. Question four, eleven people said that they prefer a warm colour scheme for a music video. Question five, eight people said that the "Theme" of a music video grabs they're attention the most. Finally, question six a total of ten people said that they do prefer to have actors in music videos.

Summary
The responses I received from my questionnaires was expected, I before hand had an idea of what sort of music video I wanted to create, but from this questionnaire it has given me an idea of what my target audience want. I can know use the answers I've received from my questionnaire and now create the best music video that I can.
